Rewriting history… daily writing prompt

Daily prompt… rewrite your first blog post.

Ummm… really? Wow. I had to go back and look at it. Then I was really baffled. I honestly can’t recall what was going through my head when I wrote that. I can piece things together a bit – I had left my marriage just seven months before and was still embroiled in a really painful divorce process. My mother was seriously ill and facing surgery.

On top of that, I was in an incredible transitional period at work, getting back into doing a lot of freelance and side writing, and I was going through a period of major rediscovery – of life, myself and so much else. It was a time of change, upheaval even. It was the beginning of a very difficult two years.

The quotes of the day were:

“Depression is rage spread thin.” (G. Santayana)

“To fly, we have to have resistance.” (M. Lin)

I found them apt then, and today, in hindsight, I understand why. I needed that process of pain and transition. It pulled me out of numbness and into life. Everyone knows the pins and needles pain of circulation returning to the foot that “fell asleep.” That period was the pain of life returning to me.

Today’s quote of the day?

“Home is not where you live but where they understand you.” (Christian Morgenstern)

And once again, I find this apt. Because today, I am comfortable in me, and I have found home.
